January:

February:
Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Sydney Mardi Gras attracts up to 500,000 people to the Oxford Street parade. Glitzy and loud, the parade is a celebration of gay and lesbian rights and lifestyle. Held in February every year. More info>>
July-August:
Melbourne International Film Festival For more than 50 years, this prestigious festival has been introducing new films from around the world to Australian audiences. More than 300 films from 40 countries are screened yearly between July and August. More info>>
September:
Canberra Floriade Floriade is Canberra's colorful spring festival, when the parks and gardens surrounding the lake explode with the colorful rhythms of many thousands of massed tulips, commencing in mid-September. More info>>
October-November:
Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival Held annually in October and November, the gem of this horse racing and social festival is the Melbourne Cup, Australia's most renowned thoroughbred event, on the first Tuesday each November. More info>>
December:
The 3 mobile Ashes Test Series The 3 mobile Ashes Test Series is one of the great cricket rivalries between two nations--England and Australia. This contest dates back to 1882 when Australia beat England on their home turf and a satirical obituary appeared in The Sporting Times lamenting the death of English cricket. The upcoming Ashes Series will be held from Nov. 23, 2006, to Jan. 6, 2007, with Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney providing the venues.
