• The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) plans to open the Chace Center, an expansion of its RISD Museum, in September. The new building, a five-story, 43,000-square-foot structure designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jose Rafael Moneo, will debut this fall. The Chace Center will provide Providence with more than 6,100 square feet of new temporary exhibition space—more than double the size of the museum’s largest existing gallery. The new addition is specifically designed for changing exhibitions and can accommodate contemporary works of art as well as traveling shows of national prominence. To mark the opening, RISD alumnus and glass artist Dale Chihuly will create a special installation to be featured as the inaugural exhibition. • Foxwoods Resort Casino, in Mashantucket, Conn., and Boston’s event and destination management company NXTevent recently partnered. NXTevent will be involved in a variety of destination management services for the resort, including airport meet and greet, off-site activities, team-building excursions, registration services, program staffing, touring, hospitality programs, and entertainment production. In spring, MGM Grand at Foxwoods will debut adjacent to the existing Foxwoods property, offering another 115,000 square feet of event space, including the Northeast’s largest ballroom. • The Vermont Convention Bureau and its members are touting their green initiatives, including the Gold LEED-certified University of Vermont Davis Center in Burlington, featuring two ballrooms and several meeting spaces accommodating more than 900 attendees. The Echo Lake Aquarium & Science Center, an off-site venue on the Burlington waterfront, was the first Vermont building to receive LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Also on the waterfront, the Courtyard Burlington Harbor by Marriott implemented a comprehensive recycling program that reduces its waste production by at least 30 percent.
