Palace Theatre- Home of the acrobatic La Grande Cirque show, the Palace Theatre offers group discounts for groups of 15 or more and is available for special events rental (max. cap. 2,700, Main Auditorium; 125, Kings Suite Showroom). Part of the Broadway at the Beach entertainment complex, the $20 million theater opened in 1995 in the center of Myrtle Beach. The facility also offers discounted dinner and show packages in conjunction with a variety of restaurants. Cocktail receptions and catering are also available. www.palacetheatremyrtlebeach.com
Broadway at the Beach- Touting itself as the largest festive entertainment complex in South Carolina, this $250 million, 350-acre attraction features theaters, 20 restaurants, over 100 specialty shops, 15 attractions, 11 nightclubs, an IMAX 3D Theatre, and three hotels surrounding a 23-acre lake. Other attractions include high-end seafood restaurants and over-the-top theme restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe and NASCAR Sports Grille. www.broadwayatthebeach.com
Dixie Stampede- Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede, which combines live animals, dramatic lighting and sound, and pyrotechnics with a four-course dinner—think 21st century Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show—provides groups with banquet service, themed meeting space, dedicated dinner shows, and two meeting areas that can accommodate an audience of 50-100. The Stampede also offers group discount rates, and unlike in the days of Buffalo Bill, vegetarian meals are available upon request. www.dixiestampede.com
House of Blues- This perennial group-favorite venue boasts a range of room rental options, from a single room to the whole house. Specializing in Southern cuisine, the facility’s chefs, however, can mix up the menu to satisfy any taste, and its state-of-the-art sound, roster of entertainment and funky decor add up to a highly energized and easy to organize special event option for groups from small to large. www.hob.com
Alabama Theatre- The vision of country music stars Alabama, this showstopper of a venue opened in 1993 and is managed by Gaylord Entertainment. The typical show here features multiple costume changes and up to and beyond 100 lighting changes. The theater is available for special events and discounted admission for groups is offered. www.alabama-theatre.com

I started here in late 2000, after spending about eight years covering the travel agent side of the industry, focusing on destination coverage. I’ve seen a lot of change in the time I’ve been in the industry, from the post-9/11 downturn to days of largesse and then the last recession, which I think has been by far the worst in terms of its impact on the industry.
