The new Residence Inn San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter (619.487.1200; www.marriott.com) opened in November. The 240-room hotel features 1,300 square feet of meeting and event space that includes wireless high-speed Internet, a DMX music system and LCD wall-mounted TVs.
In July, Hotel Indigo San Diego (619.727.4000; www.hotelsandiegodowntown.com) opened in the East Village neighborhood of downtown San Diego. The 210-room hotel features more than 6,000 square feet of meeting space, a 24-hour "Phi"tness Studio and a rooftop terrace with a reflection pool and fire pits. The property is San Diego’s first LEED-certified hotel.
The 1,200-room Hilton San Diego Bayfront (619.564.3333; www.hiltonsandiegobayfront.com) recently opened adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center, considerably strengthening the city’s convention market. In addition to 165,000 square feet of meeting and event space, the hotel boasts a 4.3-acre waterfront park and $2 million in public art.
The Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego (619.232.1234; www.manchestergrandhyatt.com) recently unveiled two new upscale meeting spaces in its Seaport Tower. The venues, each boasting panoramic views of San Diego Bay, include the 32nd Floor Boardroom, accommodating up to 15 people, and the 32nd Floor Dining Room and Lounge, which has a capacity of up to 60 people and features an outdoor terrace.
Seaport Village (619.531.0151; www.restaurantevents.com), a 14-acre waterfront shopping, dining and entertainment complex along San Diego Bay in downtown San Diego, announced a new partnership in August that allows the use of the entire Seaport Village complex for small and large events.
In October, the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina (619.224.1234; www.missionbay.hyatt.com) completed a $1 million renovation of its 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
In April, The Cosmopolitan Hotel (619.297.3100) will open in Old Town State Historic Park. The multimillion-dollar restoration of the historic 1827 building will result in 10 guest rooms, an indoor and outdoor restaurant and several meeting rooms for special occasions.
In May, Pala Casino Spa Resort (760.510.2182; www.palacasino.com) in North San Diego completed a $100 million expansion, which included additional dining and gaming space as well as a new parking garage.
