The 607-room InterContinental New York Times Square opened recently. The 36-story property is the largest new-build hotel to open in Manhattan since 2002 and will be the largest hotel in New York to achieve LEED certification. The property includes a three-bedroom, 2,700-square-foot Penthouse Suite. The hotel boasts 10,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, including a 4,000-square-foot ballroom. Additionally, there are 25 flexible suites available that can be utilized as event space. Hotel amenities include 24-hour business and fitness centers, wired and wireless Internet in guest rooms and public areas and touch-screen computers in all guest rooms. I started here in late 2000, after spending about eight years covering the travel agent side of the industry, focusing on destination coverage. I’ve seen a lot of change in the time I’ve been in the industry, from the post-9/11 downturn to days of largesse and then the last recession, which I think has been by far the worst in terms of its impact on the industry.
