Property Profile

Trump International Hotel Las Vegas

  • Hip Hotels
It’s hard to imagine that one of the boldest buildings soaring above the Las Vegas landscape—64 stories of gleaming 24-karat gold glass—would provide an escape from excess, an oasis of calm amid the rollicking “Entertainment Capital of the World.” Donald Trump doesn’t skimp on anything, but in this case, what’s missing—namely a busy, boisterous casino—is one of the biggest selling points of all.

Instead of all the bells and whistles of a gaming floor, along with the crowds, Trump International Hotel Las Vegas debuted last year with a hip, quiet and understated elegance that is an inviting unconventional addition to “Sin City.” Complete with 2,400 square feet of meeting space, a distinctive spa, cutting-edge cuisine and some of the industry’s most unique services and amenities, the property is a perfect match for small groups seeking a highly personalized spot to gather without distractions, while having the nonstop action of the Las Vegas Strip available just a half-block away. And with Vegas hotels dishing out deals to attract business during the recession, it might be an ideal time to secure attractive rates on an upscale get-together.

“Aside from our non-gaming, non-smoking environment and all-suite arrangement, we set ourselves apart with our high-end, subdued ambience,” says James Palank, regional director of sales for the Trump Hotel Collection. “You won’t see a big sign welcoming ‘XYZ’ corporation when you walk through the door.”

What attendees will see is a sleek, white, uncluttered lobby simply adorned with a gorgeous exotic flower arrangement, marble floors, contemporary crystal chandeliers and check-in desks designed in dark wood and white leather. To the side of the lobby is an intimate lounge, where a bar serves signature cocktails and cozy conversation areas welcome guests for events such as the hotel’s trademark High Champagne, complete with a choice of five types of top-shelf bubbly and hors d’oeuvres.

The property’s individually tailored, boutique-style approach is reflected in another signature feature: the Trump Attache, which provides 24-hour service that can include everything from personal shoppers to arranging for dry cleaning to making sure suites contain guests’ favorite beverages, snacks, newspapers and flowers when they arrive.

The 1,282 guest suites, comprising studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom units, are a highlight of the stay. Views of the Strip and the mountains, luxury bedding, plasma TVs, marble and wood bathrooms with spa tubs, and gourmet kitchens or kitchenettes are standout features, while the overall design of the units is modern with classic touches.

With over-the-top views and spectacular appointments, the property’s penthouse suites are popular for small receptions as well as for incentive groups and company CEOs, according to Palank.

“The top four floors of the hotel are one-, two- and three-bedroom penthouse suites that are unbelievable for small events,” he says.

Technologically sophisticated function space at the hotel includes an 800-square-foot meeting room, a 1,000-square-foot meeting room and a 600-square-foot boardroom.

The Spa at Trump is where guests can truly escape and be pampered in inventive ways.

“What makes us unique is our personalized service and the customized programs we develop based on what the guest’s intention is,” says Spa Director Colleen Stiritz.

The spa’s Intention Menu includes five options: Calm, Balance, Purify, Heal or Revitalize, and the guest’s choice determines what treatments, essential oils, colors and music will be incorporated throughout their experience. A personal Spa Attache guides them through their journey, serving specially prepared, gemstone-infused elixirs and herbal teas along the way to capitalize on the healing properties of gemstones, Stiritz says. If a guest chooses the Purify Intention, for example, the elixir will have crushed diamonds and the oil used in their massage might contain diamond and botanical essences.

Top-of-the-line skin and body care products include Shiffa Planet Earth Gem Massage Oils, while under an exclusive arrangement with famous esthetician Kate Somerville, the spa offers the Ultimate Kate, a facial treatment that infuses the skin with oxygen and includes a pressure point facial massage followed by a DermaLucent LED light therapy procedure.

Stiritz says custom-designed spa experiences can be arranged for groups.

“Just like with individual guests, the group experience has to be personalized,” she says. “We’ve done events where a group takes over the whole spa and does a circuit of mini treatments, or we can do breakout sessions with mini massages and offer gemstone-infused elixirs and Sprayology products, which you spray under your tongue to help deal with stress and promote a state of balance and well-being.”

Another aspect of the hotel that is anything but ordinary is its dining scene, including catering for group events, which can be fully customized with everything from an imaginative spin on old standbys to daring tasting menus. Personal chefs can prepare meals on-site in the penthouse suites, while the property’s two restaurants include the casual H2(Eau), located next to the pool and sundeck and featuring creative American and Asian cuisine, as well as a bottled water menu with selections from around the world, and DJT, the hotel’s signature fine-dining restaurant.

DJT’s cuisine ranges from traditional dishes with a modern twist to inspired creations that might include marinated hamachi sashimi with cantaloupe, basil and pink peppercorn, or Chinese braised short ribs with cucumber yogurt, parsnip and candied mango. Special touches at DJT include a champagne cart, a caviar cart, a cognac cart (complete with absinthe) and a dessert cart. Not surprisingly, DJT has a unique wine list with several boutique wines, as well a couple of other unexpected beverage menus: a sake list with nearly 30 options, a beer list with 50-plus brews from around the world and a soda list with 25 kinds of fizzy concoctions. Don’t be surprised if the sommelier suggests a Boylan’s Black Cherry soda or an all-natural Dry Soda Lavender to pair with dessert, which might be something irresistible like a chocolate tart with vanilla cream and crispy cherries. DJT has a private dining room that can seat 12 people.
