Dan McNamee, Loews Denver Hotel - Denver, CO

What service can you provide to groups that they normally might not receive?

We’ll really accommodate any guest needs we can within reason. The question should be what won’t we do.

What are your bar or nightclub recommendations?

We’re pretty proud of our beer in Colorado, so I like to recommend people go to a few of our local microbrews like the Bull and Bush, Wynkoop Brewery and the Great Divide. The Rackhouse is another unique option that offers Colorado Whiskey and 20 craft beers on tap.

Can you recommend a good place to take a stroll?

As we’re situated in Southeast Denver, Washington Park is a great local park for walks and people watching. On the way is the Gaylord retail district which consists of local eateries and boutiques.

Are there any quirky places we should check out?

Justin Cucci has a couple of really good and interesting restaurants in town that fit the “quirky” theme. Root Down took over a 1950’s gas station and has all recycled furniture including an old high school basketball hardwood floor. Their cuisine is “globally inspired”. The other is Linger which took over the Olinger Mortuary. They just removed the “O” on the neon sign (largest neon sign in Denver). The cuisine is “Street Food” from around the world.

What is an unusual request from a group you’ve had?

Promoters for a band that had just won an MTV award ( moon man award) had me arrange for a singing telegram. This is not that unusual normally, but this request was a little more unique. It needed to be a person dressed in an Astronaut uniform singing a bad version of the song they just won for backstage to the band before they were about to perform.

The singing astronaut memorized the song lyrics, and the band loved it! Pretty funny night.

A party of 12 wants to have dinner right away. What restaurant can accommodate last-minute requests of this size?

We have a good relationship with many restaurants in the area, but a few besides our Tuscany Restaurant would be Sushi Den, Washington Park Grill and Elways.

What’s a unique event that has taken place at your property?

We had a leading car manufacture hold a customer service training seminar with us. The unique part is that they requested us to purposefully do everything incorrectly for the first part of the meeting which they then later used as tool to train their team. Our Catering Director of course had fun with this by putting them in a small room without enough chairs while turning up the heat just to name a few.
