South Upgrades & Openings (Feb. 2015)

Florida

The Fort Lauderdale Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa wrapped up a $6.5 million meeting space renovation. Upgrades include new light fixtures, modern furniture and new carpeting. The Marriott property, with 16 oceanfront acres, offers 60,000 square feet of outdoor event space plus 40,000 square feet of indoor space, accommodating up to 2,000 people. www.harborbeachmarriott.com

Ground was broken on the new-build Wyndham Grand Resort Clearwater in western Central Florida last month. The 450-room resort is expected to enter the market in 2017, adding 24,000 square feet of function space and generating 1,900 local jobs. www.wyndham.com

Hawks Kay Resort in the Florida Keys is in the final phase of its multimillion-dollar renovation. New amenities include luxury cabanas and penthouses that are great for stargazing. This year the resort is also set to debut the new Marina Walk, an entertainment destination with shopping, dining and local artisans. A planned new-build restaurant will add private dining, ocean views and fire pits. The 60-acre resort offers 177 guest rooms and numerous outdoor excursions, including diving, fishing and stand-up paddle boarding. www.hawkscay.com

Georgia

Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Galleria completed a $16 million remodel project. The lobby and guest rooms were renovated, and a new concierge lounge and the Rocks restaurant were added. The 16-story hotel offers 399 guest rooms and 16,000 square feet of meeting space. www.atlantamarriottnw.com

Louisiana

The Le Meridien New Orleans recently revealed its $29 million transformation. All 410 guest rooms were modernized, a new destination restaurant was added, and 1,600 square feet of meeting space is now available. www.lemeridienneworleanshotel.com

North Carolina

The new Le Meridien Charlotte is located within walking distance of the city’s business district and the Charlotte Convention Center, Time Warner Arena and Bank of America Stadium. The 300-room hotel offers 55,000 square feet of event space as part of a dual-brand complex that includes the neighboring Sheraton Charlotte Hotel. www.starwoodhotels.com
